Root canal treatment (endodontia)

Root canal treatment deals with diseases of the inner of the tooth and dieseases around the root apex.
If a tot his so deeply damaged by caries that the bacteria have reached the inner tooth, there is only two treatment options:

1. the tooth has to be extracted
2. root canal treatment can be executed, which removes the inflamed tissue from the root canal. Subsequently the root canal is closed with filling material.
   

If the tooth is not treated the bacteria from the root canal can infect the surrounding tissue and und cause an inflammation there.

The treatment is done with modern equipment (e.g., magnifying glasses) to look fort he tiny root canals. The length of the canal can for example be determined by digital X-ray. The canals are treated with a micro motor and very flexible files. To avoid pain the patient receives local anesthesia.
